Glimpses of Glory
Musings from the Garden
By Peggy Wyar
I experienced something that I thought was alarming, until I consulted with an eye doctor who assured me that it was not cause for concern. The liquid vitreous within my right eye is detaching from the retina as a result of the aging process. I guess our bodies really change a lot as we age. It seems odd that detachment would be considered “normal”.
So, feeling relieved that I wasn’t going blind, I began to enjoy the show. The main symptom has been intermittent flashes of light in my peripheral vision. I notice more bursts of light in the evening and I’m intrigued by the phenomenon. I feel that God is giving me a gifted reminder of the promise of His appearing and the heavenly reality that I will enjoy when He comes.
Luke 17:24 NASB “For just like the lightning, when it flashes out of one part of the sky, shines to the other part of the sky, so will the Son of Man be in His day.”
Luke 21:27-28 NASB “And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
With each flash I see I am being reminded to anticipate the coming arrival of Jesus, our Savior and Bridegroom, who is returning to redeem His church. He will free us from this decaying world, and bring us into the reality of His glorious kingdom where the wedding feast will take place.
Revelation 19:7-8 NASB “Let’s rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, because the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His bride has prepared herself.” It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.”
We, the Bride of Christ, are in a season of preparation for our union with our Bridegroom. This time of waiting is a gift to be used wisely as our God transforms us, and ministers through us for His mission.
Titus 2:11-14 NASB “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously, and in a godly manner in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, eager for good deeds.”
Because of these flashing reminders, I am encouraged to look up. I remember Who I will be seeing face to face. I consider His love and mercies, His kindness and compassion, His provision and power, His ability and generosity, and I am grateful He is my Redeemer. In view of Who He is, I am encouraged to be that living sacrifice that Romans 12:1-2 talks about.
May we, His church, be fruitful and beautifully adorned when He returns.
Come Lord Jesus, come.
