Generosity

Musings from the Garden

By Peggy Wyar

Being so very generous to us, the ones He created and loves, we can imitate God's generosity with those around us. We can be giving of our time, our resources, our prayers, our comfort, our words, our silence… and whatever else may be needed in the moment.

2 Corinthians 9:7 “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written:

“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor;
    their righteousness endures forever.”

10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

12 This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. 13 Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.”

The Sunday before our mission team left for the Amazon, Pastor gave thanks for the generosity of our church family.  I echo his sentiment and commend you, my brothers and sisters, for the gifts you gave so freely to help the mission in Brazil. Praise God for so many cheerful givers with hearts so full of love for Jesus. He will bless you abundantly, caring for your needs and enabling you to abound in every good work.

God is more than able to supply more seed, more increase, to enlarge our harvest of righteousness. He will enrich each of us in every way so our generosity increases.  The outcome will result in thanks being given to God for His rich generosity. God will be glorified and praised because of each one’s obedience (which the gospel motivated). Our giving gives God much glory.

Isn’t it fun to be able to participate in bringing thanksgiving and praise and glory to God? Forgetting about what we may gain, just having the chance to increase God’s greatness in other people’s eyes is wonderful.

Let’s continue giving…He deserves all the glory that our generosity stirs up.
